The CISD San Benito was built on this site in 1952 and, in order to protect and preserve the surrounding community, the small building that housed the Callendret School was converted into a museum by the SanBenito Historical Society. For history buffs, the museum has a library specializing in the history of the school and a large collection of artefacts from the history of the city.

San Benito is a must-visit destination for those who want to learn more about the history, culture and heritage of Texas. Visit the extensive gardens to appreciate the unique ecosystem and take part in the exhibits at the Nature Centre. See many of Austin's historic landmarks, including the Austin Museum of Art, the Texas State Capitol and the San Antonio River Walk. You can also roll along the riverbed on the New Braunfels Riverwalk or the South Austin RiverWalk and see some of the city's many historic buildings and landmarks.

Take a look back in time and learn more about Colonel Sam Robertson, who founded and named the city of San Benito in 1904. The Trevino family says he helped prepare food for the families of the San Antonio Indians, the first settlers in Texas. In the early 19th century, a Louisiana native named Jean-Marie "Joe" Callandret came to SanBenito with his family.

According to press reports, about eight police stations and deputies were searched, including two officers from the San Benito County Sheriff's Office and two deputies. On March 26, the city of SanBenito released a statement saying that officials were the subject of an internal investigation following Trevino's death. She did not answer questions about how they were trained to deal with people in emotional distress and whether protocols were followed in the case.

A San Benito police lawyer did not respond to questions about the incident, citing an open state investigation. Reached by phone last week, the lawyer representing the SanBenito County District Attorney's Office (DA) confirmed that state officials have not yet handed over the investigation's findings to the DA, but said that's why the family and community have received little information about the case.

San Benito is a working class city of approximately 24,600 people, mainly commuting to San Antonio, Texas, the largest city in the state of Texas. It is in Southern California, where more people live per square mile than any other county in Texas. Texas is full of vibrant small towns, with a population of more than 4,000 people in San Benita County, about 30 miles south of San Diego.

San Benito is also home to the Texas Conjunto Music Hall of Fame, where the names and memorabilia of musicians are kept.
